Turkish Civil Society will be stronger with EU support!
The launch of the new EU funded “Civil Society Support Programme-I” will take place in Ankara at the Anadolu Down Town Hotel on Tuesday 8 January 2019. The Head of Delegation of the EU to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, Ambassador Faruk Kaymakçı and Director of Central Finance and Contracts Unit Mehmet Selim Uslu will attend the opening event for the programme, which aims to provide support for CSOs from all across Turkey.
What is the programme’s objective?
The EU funded programme which is implemented by the EU Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to enhance Turkish CSOs’ institutional capacity. Its goal is to support the development of civil society through a more active and democratic participation in policy and decision making processes and to promote a culture based on fundamental rights and dialogue.
The Programme’s Scope and Implementation
Under the Civil Society Support Programme, CSOs will receive a total of 6.4M EUR to improve their autonomy, representativeness and accountability and increase their effectiveness. The Programme entails direct agreements with a CSO consortium, a service contract and two grant schemes. The first one, “Grant Scheme for Grassroots Civil Society Organisations” supports capacity building activities of grassroots CSOs in Turkey in terms of administrative, communication and advocacy skills. The second grant scheme “CSO Partnerships & Networks on Strengthening Cooperation between Public Sector and CSOs Grant Scheme” aims to enable active citizens and CSOs in the legal and financial environment , to strengthen cooperation between CSOs and public sector and improve governance and institutional capacities of CSOs.
